At our American curriculum high school in Hanoi, students in Grades 9–12 build broad academic foundations before progressing to focused study. The International High School Program combines rigorous academics, interdisciplinary learning, applied projects, and selected AP® opportunities.

Our curriculum

The International High School Program in our American high school diploma in Hanoi provides a structured Grade 9–12 pathway, from a broad Foundation Year to advanced study, applied learning, selected AP® opportunities and diploma completion. With English as the main language of learning, students develop academic writing, analytical thinking, research and evidence-based communication skills, preparing for university and international pathways.

Build your foundation


Grade 9 gives students the breadth and academic grounding to make informed choices about future study.

Students build knowledge across English 9, Integrated Math, Science, Business and Enterprise, Integrated Social Studies, Design and Technology, Vietnamese as an Additional Language, Vietnamese Culture, Health and Physical Education, Integrated Arts, Academic Writing, Library, Assembly, and PSHE.

This Foundation Year strengthens study habits, academic English, writing, subject confidence, and independent learning before students progress into more focused study.

Grade 9

Grade 10

Explore your direction


In Grade 10, students begin connecting academic learning with their developing interests and future goals.

Alongside core learning, students excel in courses include English 10, Pre Calculus or AP Pre Calculus preparation, Integrated Science, VAL 10, Entrepreneurship, Applied Engineering and Robotics, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts.

Project-based and applied experiences encourage greater independence while helping students identify areas they may wish to develop further.

Deepen your strengths


Grade 11 introduces more advanced academic and elective opportunities. Depending on readiness and course availability, learning may include AP® Precalculus, AP® Environmental Science, World History, Aquatic Engineering, business electives, and Visual or Performing Arts.

Students begin making more strategic decisions about academic strengths, university interests, and future areas of specialization.

Prepare for your next chapter

Grade 12 brings together advanced study, graduation readiness, and university preparation.

Course opportunities may include AP® Calculus, AP® Physics 1, AP® Human Geography, Applied Engineering, AP® Economics, Performing Arts, AP® Music Theory, AP® Art History, and advanced 2D or 3D Art portfolio development.

Students consolidate their academic profile and prepare to graduate as increasingly independent, confident, and globally minded learners.

As part of the Fairmont International Schools U.S. Diploma requirements, students spend a four-week summer academic term at Fairmont Schools in the United States. During this immersive experience, students complete required coursework, including American Studies and English Language, while learning in an authentic American school environment.
 
The summer term gives students the opportunity to apply their academic skills in a new cultural and educational setting, build confidence and independence, and experience everyday school life in the United States. Beyond the classroom, students engage with the local community and gain a broader understanding of American culture and perspectives. This experience complements their studies at Fairmont International School Vietnam and helps prepare them for future university study in the U.S. and around the world.

Scientific foundations

Students in our Common Core aligned high school take charge of their learning by diving into biology, chemistry, physics and advanced math, building strong scientific skills and analytical thinking.

Alongside their core courses, they choose at least one Liberal Arts credit and two electives, creating a personalized and well-rounded education that reflects their interests and aspirations. 

International business

Students take the lead in building a strong foundation in global business while deepening their understanding of science.

By exploring core business principles and selecting at least two science credits, they shape a balanced and future-ready education that reflects their interests and goals. 

World perspectives

Students take charge of their future by expanding their worldview and strengthening their science skills.

Through engaging courses in core economy, travel and tourism, and Integrated Arts, along with choosing at least two science credits, they build a well-rounded, forward-thinking education that aligns with their passions and prepares them for the challenges ahead in our American curriculum high school, Vietnam.

Advanced Placement (AP®) opportunities

At Fairmont International School Vietnam, selected Advanced Placement (AP®) opportunities give academically ready High School students the chance to pursue more advanced study within the FISV International High School Diploma pathway. Following the broad Grade 9 Foundation Year, students begin to specialize from Grade 10, making choices that reflect their academic strengths and future goals. Selected AP® courses may be available in mathematics, science, humanities, economics, and the arts, subject to student readiness. Throughout High School, students are encouraged to ask important questions and personalized academic guidance and university preparation help each student build confidence.
