English is the main language of academic learning, while students continue to develop Vietnamese language and cultural understanding.Academic language is strengthened across subjects, helping students research, analyze, present, and defend complex ideas with confidence. Personalized language support helps students access increasingly challenging learning.With support in English as an Additional Language and Vietnamese as an Additional Language, they build confidence and fluency. Many are encouraged to take international English language exams such as IELTS and often qualify for exemptions, a testament to the strength of FISV’s language preparation.
As part of ISP, students benefit from a wide range of international opportunities that broaden their horizons. Through International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS), they can take part in global collaboration, competition and cultural exchange.The collaborative opportunities encourage students to work with peers beyond Hanoi, explore global challenges, and develop the confidence to contribute in international environments. Additionally, Grade 11 students have the opportunity to join cultural excursions to our sister school, Lynn-Rose School, in the Toronto region, where they engage in activities such as exploring historical sites and visiting local universities. Following the broad Grade 9 Foundation Year, students begin to specialize from Grade 10, exploring areas of interest across Business, Arts, Humanities, Science, and Technology. Selected Advanced Placement (AP®) opportunities, applied learning, and academic guidance allow students to shape a pathway that reflects their strengths, interests, and university aspirations.
Guided by personalized academic and university counselling, students explore subject choices, AP® opportunities, portfolios, and university options. Working closely with their counsellors and families, building the academic knowledge, independence, and confidence to pursue future university pathways in Vietnam and internationally.
As part of the Fairmont International Schools U.S. Diploma requirements, students spend a four-week summer academic term at Fairmont Schools in the United States. During this immersive experience, students complete required coursework, including American Studies and English Language, while learning in an authentic American school environment. The summer term gives students the opportunity to apply their academic skills in a new cultural and educational setting, build confidence and independence, and experience everyday school life in the United States. Beyond the classroom, students engage with the local community and gain a broader understanding of American culture and perspectives. This experience complements their studies at Fairmont International School Vietnam and helps prepare them for future university study in the U.S. and around the world.
